One of the expensive items that a bride must pick out while planning her wedding is her wedding cake. Most brides and grooms make it a tradition to cut the cake and feed each other the first piece at the reception. But who says you have to have a traditional layered wedding cake to cut? Sometimes wedding cakes can be expensive, fragile, and take up way too much room at the catering table. If you are looking for something that is just a simple bite or two instead of serving up a huge piece of cake, cake pops may just be the right thing. Cake pops are unbelievable tasty treats made up of cake and icing, then covered in a smooth chocolate shell and possibly embellished with sprinkles and other tiny treats. This delicious ball of delight is then served up on a stick, similar to a lollipop, and can sit beautifully with your table décor.
Serve your guests a slice of heaven by offering a pie buffet instead of a wedding cake. Use different cake stands and display the pies at different heights and on different-colored displays. Allow your guests to be able to choose from the most delicious flavors of pies. Apple, blueberry, pumpkin, pecan, peach, strawberry, chocolate cream, lemon meringue, and key lime pies are a few of the best flavors of all time.
Rice Krispies Cake
If you enjoy Rice Krispies treats, why not go with those instead of a traditional wedding cake? You can add different colors of white chocolate chips, sprinkles, frostings, chocolate drizzles, etc. Decorate them any way to make them coordinate with your wedding colors. This is a great casual treat that most people love to eat. You can have them tiered like a cake or serve them in simple squares. Any way you serve them, they'll be delicious.
Mason jars are a wonderful way to keep a laid-back style if you are having a more casual wedding. Great bulk desserts that can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated are dessert jars. Choose from strawberry shortcake, brownies and whipped cream, and banana pudding for three yummy recipes that your guests will be sure to love. Simply serve them on your buffet and your guests will snatch them up quickly.
Ice Cream Options
There are a number of great options for wedding cake alternatives using ice cream. It may be a bit tricky to keep it cold, but if you can come up with some creative ways to serve your guests ice cream while it stays cold, do it: It's a fun and cool treat for guests at any summertime (or anytime) wedding reception.
An ice cream sundae bar will allow guests to build their own sundaes with toppings galore. Set out the ice cream and allow guests to top it with crumbled cookies, sprinkles, candy, chocolate, caramel, whipped cream, cherries, and any other of your favorite toppings.
If you have an ice cream sandwich bar, guests can choose their favorite flavor of ice cream and sandwich it between two of their favorite types of cookies. Then, allow them to roll the sandwiches in cookie crumbs or chocolate chips and you've got a gourmet dessert that is simple to make and eat.
Ice cream cone cakes may require a special type of tray, but if you can do it, everyone at your reception will enjoy it. Build each soft-serve cone with beautiful swirls on top, them place the cone in specially designed holes in the tiered tray. Your ice cream cone cake will resemble a cake and will allow each guest to simply pick up their cone and eat as they mingle.
